Friction coefficient test equipment

GripTester Mk2 friction coefficient tester

The GripTester friction coefficient tester uses a three-wheel trailer to measure the friction coefficient through the brake wheel. It uses the fixed slip principle to determine the surface state and the specific characteristics of the airport runway friction.
The GripTester Mk2 friction coefficient tester can continuously measure the friction force and indicate the minimum friction level. If it is lower than the friction level of the runway, the runway is slippery. A technical description that gives the results in real time during the test and complies with all civil airport specifications.
GripTester Mk2 has a measuring wheel, using special smooth tires, mounted on the wheel axle with navigation, for measuring horizontal drag and vertical load forces. From these measurements, dynamic friction readings are automatically calculated and transmitted to a data acquisition computer (typically located in the tractor cab). The computer also calculates and stores a measurement speed for each reading.
Most of the weight of the GripTester friction coefficient tester is distributed on the two drive wheels. The drive wheels use patterned tires and are mounted on a solid stainless steel drive shaft. The drive shaft has a sprocket with 27 teeth; a shaft on which is mounted a measuring wheel with a sprocket with 32 teeth. The two shafts are connected by a transmission chain: this transmission system continuously brakes the measuring wheel, forcing it to slide.
The weight of the sliding wheel and the GripTester coefficient of friction tester causes a slight bending movement in the root shaft (measured by strain gauges mounted on the vertical and horizontal planes of the machine). The signal processing unit (SPU) installed on the GripTester friction coefficient tester processes the signals of these strain gauges and then transmits them to the data acquisition computer (DCC).
The SPU also receives a signal from a proximity sensor (activated by a wheel with 20 square teeth mounted on the drive shaft). This allows distance and speed to be calculated.
